Please Do Not Forget Her

It was not easy to write over the issue. Whenever I come across news related to her innumerable thoughts flood my mind. Like ever before this time too I found it very difficult to organize my thoughts into some presentable shape. Yes Aafia Siddiqui’s case always brings such confusion in our minds.

Sold at a dictator’s hand (who shouted PAKISTAN FIRST. Was not she a Pakistani citizen?), a Muslim woman,  our own Pakistani sister, with her children, imprisoned without charge for years, tortured physically and mentally, our silence, media’s role(which becomes very active when Mukhtarah Mai is there) and her sad story is full of pain….

Our silence perhaps is one of the most torturous thing for the lady and her family. It was through some text messages that I came to know about an appeal of prayers from her sister Dr. Fouzia and another one to remember her by Yvonne Ridley. Why do we forget her,

-Is it that we have become so materialistic or
-Economic constraints have led to this reluctant behavior of our masses, or
-Is it that we are afraid of the west so much so that can’t rise for our rights either?

It looks a combination of all has resulted the unfair and most cruel treatment the lady is receiving.

While feeling sorry over the attitude of our Muslim community one must not forget Yvonne Ridley, the story of whom shows us another side of the issue.Yeah the same woman captured by Taliban (the ignorant and hard heartened ones who would hide their women in “mobile tents”).But strangely they provided her with all the possible facilities in their disposal along with guarding her honor!

And the lady reflects back not only by converting to the true religion but also she happened to be the first to reveal Aafia’s imprisonment in Bagram. Her voice for Aafia is surely the result of Taliban’s behavior to her.So does this mean the extrimists win?

Isn’t it confusing??

Civilized and enlightened West, trying to bring peace and liberty among the people of the globe but doesn’t know how to respect a woman and the illiterate extremists but sensible enough to convey their message through their acts. While the US’s treatment of prisoners has brought open condemnation, they must look into the difference in their words and deeds.

And an appeal to all peace lovers;

Please don’t forget this sister of yours. No protest or violation is needed .You are only requested to remember her, let her know that she is not alone in these hours of need. If your words can bring some relief to her please do not hesitate to send your concern to the lady through cards and messages on the following address;
